MIRI: A Bomba rescue boat that is being used to help flood victims in interior Sarawak has suffered a technical breakdown - after carrying tonnes of food-aid for flood victims over the past two weeks.

The food-aid mission along the Marudi-Benawa river route is halted for now due to the breakdown.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the Kalvar rescue boat used in the Marudi-Benawa route is being grounded for repairs.

"The first mission to deliver food aid along the Marudi to Kg Benawa and SK Benawa sector was successfully done.

"The second mission on Dec 17 had to be temporarily halted, after the boat broke down.

"The boat was transporting food aid from the Welfare Department to flood victims along the Marudi-Benawa route," said Bomba Sarawak in its updates.

The Marudi-Benawa route is one of the dozens of areas in Sarawak badly hit by floods now.

The state is facing the full onslaught of the landas season, which is the equivalent of the monsoon season in the peninsula.
