MELAKA: Melaka records its first 13 evacuees from flood-hit Kampung Bukit Balai in Durian Tunggal here Sunday (Dec 15) after two days of heavy rain.
The individuals from three families were evacuated to a nearby relief centre.
State Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Kol Effendy Ali (pic) said the evacuation exercise started at 3pm on Sunday.
However, Kesidang assemblyman Allex Seah Shoo Chin said it was surprising that the number of evacuees was negligible compared to previous years.
"Even an hour of heavy rainfall would cause massive floods previously and for the first time, I received no calls about flooding in my constituency despite two days of heavy rain.
"Flood mitigation programmes have probably yielded positive results," he said, adding that he was keeping his fingers crossed that no major floods occur within the next few days.
