GEORGE TOWN: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming has been told to show proof that MCA used funds for Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) to earn interest income instead of assisting the institution.
Penang MCA liaison committee spokesman Ooi Teik Liang said Nga should apologise to the public if he could not do so.
“It is irresponsible of a deputy speaker and the Perak DAP chairman to utter such comments.
“Now, I challenge Nga to show evidence that MCA kept the money in the bank to collect interest.
“If he is unable to prove that, then he needs to apologise to all TAR UC members and the Chinese community, ” he said after lodging a police report on the matter at the north-east district police headquarters in Patani Road here yesterday.
The report was in response to Nga’s claim in a Chinese daily on Nov 9 titled “Even RM1bil worth of funds for TAR UC would invoke dissatisfaction if it did not go through the hands of MCA”.
Ooi said Nga had alleged that when the funds for TAR UC were managed by MCA in the past, the party had kept the money in the bank instead of assisting the institution.“In the story, Nga also advised MCA to stop fooling the Chinese community and questioned why MCA made it hard for hawkers to collect funds for TAR UC and did not use the RM634mil in its reserves.
“Such comments have tarnished the image of MCA as they were made without any concrete evidence, ” he said.
