MIRI: Emergency food aid has been sent to flood-hit areas of interior Sarawak.
At least 24 villages and schools in the rural Marudi and Telang Usan districts in northern Sarawak are running out of food supplies.
Sarawak Disaster Relief Management Committee said that boats and heavy-duty trucks are being used to transport the food to the remote areas.
The main coordinating agencies involved in the food aid relief operations are the Welfare Department, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Unit.
In Marudi district, there are at least 18 settlements and schools in need of food as well as villages in Kuala Tutoh and Lubok Nibong and also longhouses like Rumah Asing and Rumah Lujang.
Further north in the Telang Usan district, at least six remote longhouses are in need of food, including Long Ajoi and Long Sepiling, which are populated by Penans.
Sarawak Bomba said large boats have been sent from Miri into Marudi and Telang Usan to help deliver the supplies.
The Civil Defence Force have sent out dozens of trucks and personnel to aid the delivery process.
