KUALA LUMPUR: Police have rescued a nine-year-old girl after a video showing a woman threatening to stab her with an object went viral.

A 22-year-old woman, who is the stepmother of the girl, was also arrested, said City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Rusdi Mohd Isa.

“Based on our investigations, the suspect is believed to have been scolding and threatening the girl using a pen,” he said.

The brief video, which was shared on social media, showed a woman wearing a purple dress sitting on the floor while pointing an object at the girl who was seated against a wall.

Speaking in Tamil, the woman told the girl: “You are not my child, I did not give birth to you.”

She also remarked that she was only taking care of the girl because of her father.

The woman held a sharp object and appeared to threaten to stab the girl, who was visibly shaken.

It is understood the incident took place at the Sri Aman Flats in Jinjang.
