DUNGUN: A fisherman is feared drowned after he went missing when his wooden boat sank near the estuary of the Dungun River here.

The victim, Afandi Zakaria, 42, and his two friends, Mohd Fadhil Jusoh, 39, and Mohamad Ekhsan Kamarudin, 32, were believed to have gone to sea yesterday morning to fish.

Dungun police chief Supt Baharudin Abdullah said Mohd Fadhil and Mohamad Ekhsan managed to swim ashore clinging to a fuel tank while Afandi was nowhere to be found.

“Both were sent to the Dungun hospital for treatment,’’ he said.

Four Fire and Rescue Department personnel were involved in the search for Afandi.

Meanwhile, Afandi’s wife Noor Azura Abdul Aziz, 38, is hoping that her husband would be quickly found safe and sound.

“It has been a week since my husband last went out to sea. Last night (Friday), he mentioned about going out to sea if the weather was good this morning.

“He left the house at dawn. I didn’t get to talk to him and only heard his motorcycle engine when he left.

“I hope the search and rescue team will find my husband,’’ said Noor Azura, who has three children aged between one and 14. — Bernama
