“We seem to have relaxed as if there is a guarantee that we can win. This cannot be the case because by-elections and a general election are different.
“If we want to win, we must plan our strategies carefully,” he said in his winding-up speech at the end of the Umno general assembly yesterday.
Mohamad also reminded delegates to keep their strategies confidential.
“This should be our secret. We should not let others know about our plans,” he said.
He said for Umno to win GE15, it must be strong on its own and not depend on external cooperation and support to form the government.“It is important for us to strengthen our party. We have a coalition and an alliance but we must correct ourselves.
“If Umno is strong, we can form the government. The people will come to us then,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of unity and consensus among members, particularly on the issue of election candidates.
“Consensus will see us triumph, disputes will cause us to fall,” he said.
Mohamad also told members to change their attitude and be more spirited in fighting for the party’s struggles.
“If we can do this, we can certainly defeat Pakatan Harapan,” he said.
He said the people were already starting to reject Pakatan and Umno needed to grab this opportunity to win them over.
“For this to happen, we need to correct our shortcomings and stop doing things which the people do not like,” he said.
