KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has amended its constitution at a closed-door session when the general assembly reconvened after Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's presidential address on Saturday (Dec 7).
The amendments were tabled by vice-president Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin and were unanimously approved by the 2,694 delegates without debate.
The Wanita wing's request for its chief's status to be at par with that of Umno deputy president was also approved by the party.
Another amendment allows Umno to strip someone of their membership if they register as a member of another party.
Delegates also supported an amendment to lower the membership age from 18 to 16.
Umno Online quoted Khaled as saying that the amendments were to ensure that the party remains modern and relevant.
