KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi paid a total of RM72,209.57 for 39 vehicle insurance policies in 2015, the High Court heard.
Allianz General Insurance branch manager Fang Suat Lim, 49, testified that the policies were for 10 luxury cars and eight high-powered motorcycles.
Among them were BMW X5, Mini Cooper S, Mercedes Benz CLS350, BMW 320i (A), Toyota Land Cruiser and a BMW R1200 GS superbike.
The policies – valued at between RM113.80 and RM8,552.52 – were registered under Ahmad Zahid’s name, his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis, and their children Nurulizwani, Datuk Nurulhidayah and Ahmad Shafiq Hazieq.
The four types of policies Ahmad Zahid took were a private car policy, motorcycle policy, enhanced road warrior policy and bike warrior policy.
“For a Chrysler Jeep Wrangler, Ahmad Zahid bought two types of policies totalling RM4,925.15.
“For a Toyota Vellfire, Ahmad Zahid also bought two types of policies totalling RM6,368.55, ” she said at the former deputy prime minister’s trial involving 47 charges of misappropriation involving millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi yesterday.
The amount of payment made by Ahmad Zahid for the policies between January 2015 and November 2015 was RM65,070.04, excluding a 10% commission.
According to Fang, the value of the insurance policies and the amount reflected in the Allianz official receipt differed because there was a deduction of commission for payments made through Allianz insurance agents.
“Insurance agents will receive 10% commission from the premium amount of insurance paid by customers, ” she said.
Ahmad Zahid is facing 47 charges, 12 of which are for criminal breach of trust, eight for bribery and 27 for money laundering involving millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.
The trial before Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah continues on Monday.
