KUALA LUMPUR: Umno must offer the people a new deal which can convince Malaysians of all races to support it, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
The Umno deputy president said the party must be more inclusive, adding that it cannot just depend on a Pakatan Harapan downfall for it to succeed.
“We must convince not only the Malays but also the non-Malays, that Umno is the best bet for a better Malaysia.
“Be reminded that Umno’s future is not only in the hands of its three million members.
“Its future is also determined by all Malaysians, even those who are not party members.
“Therefore, to prove that Umno is serious in becoming an inclusive movement, I urge the Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings to come up with a concrete agenda that Umno can offer to Malays and every other Malaysian.
“This should be our new deal,” he said at the opening of Umno’s three wings last night.
Outlining his idea of a new deal, Mohamad said it should include a guarantee by Umno to strengthen Malaysia’s diversity, to respect the interests of all races and to develop and prosper the country.
Adding to that, the deal must also include a commitment by Umno to improve the socioeconomic status and political standing of the Malays, and at the same time strengthen the position of Islam, the royal institution and the national language.
Also present were Umno's three vice-presidents, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin, as well as Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Wanita chief Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad and Puteri chief Datuk Zarida Zarik Khan.
