KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah is confident of gaining the support of Kimanis voters, and its president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal wants to prepare for the by-election due to be held within the next two-months.
“We are confident that the people will support us, but we must reach out to all voters to canvass for support, ” said the Chief Minister in a statement issued here.
He said that it was important for all partners - Warisan and Pakatan Harapan components (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PKR and DAP) as well as UPKO – to sit together to map out a strategy to try and win the seat that became vacant, after the Election Court declared the May 2018 election results null and void.
“I will call a meeting of component leaders after my return from Japan, ” said Shafie, who is in Tokyo leading a Sabah trade mission.
Shafie said that as Warisan was still working on delivering all its 2018 election promises, he expects people’s confidence to remain with them.
He said that the state government was in the process of resolving various issues faced by the Kimanis voters, and this included land matters.
“During my recent visit to Kimanis, we also undertook some fresh initiatives, including plans to set up a furniture factory. Hopefully, it will materialise soon, ” he said.
On the possible Warisan candidate for the seat, he said that there have been many suggestions, and they will decide at the appropriate time.
“We have not decided on the candidate, ” he added.
