PUTRAJAYA: The government will consider the Defence Ministry’s request for its annual budget allocation to be at least 1% of the gross domestic product if the economy permits, says Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (pic).
“It is not whether we will consider or not, but whether it is within our means (to give such an allocation).
“If the economy allows for it, we will give the request serious consideration,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a joint venture agreement between Northern Gateway Logistic Center Sdn Bhd and One Northern Hub Sdn Bhd on Tuesday (Dec 3).
On Monday (Dec 2), Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu said that his ministry has been applying for an annual allocation of at least 1% of the GDP.
This, he said, was to ensure the future needs and expenses of the ministry were sufficiently met.
Mohamad had also said that the ministry would be seeking more budget allocation under the 12th and 13th Malaysia Plans.
