KUALA LUMPUR: There will only be one official national congress for PKR, says the party advisory council chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
She said this was the one scheduled from Thursday to Sunday in Melaka.
“To us, the party is organising one (national) congress only, that is the official congress, ” Bernama quoted her as telling reporters at a mass circumcision programme at her Pandan parliamentary constituency here yesterday.
The Deputy Prime Minister said this in response to reports that a group aligned with party deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali planned to hold a parallel congress on the same day as the national congress.
Dr Wan Azizah said she hoped issues and internal conflicts could be resolved at the 14th national congress.
Meanwhile, the run-up to the party congress is hotting up with both sides firing salvoes at each other.
Party central leadership council (MPP) member Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said he planned to push a motion to get Azmin and his allies sacked, citing absenteeism from party meetings of more than three times in a row without a valid reason.
“If they want to play stupid calling for a motion of no confidence against the party president (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) who has not breached the party constitution, I, too, can retaliate by pushing a motion to sack Azmin, vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin and deputy Youth chief Hilman Idham, ” he said.
He was commenting on a purported joint statement issued by a group of Youth leaders calling for a motion of no confidence against Anwar for what they said were actions to undermine the party’s reformation agenda.
One of them, Lembah Pantai committee member Mohd Faizal Yahya, denied on Facebook that he was part of the alleged group calling for a censure against Anwar.
