KUALA LUMPUR: A burglar failed to score on his latest target after being beaten by a group of people who had seen him trying to escape with the stolen goods.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm S. Shanmugamoorthy said in a statement that the incident occurred on Thursday (Nov 21) at an apartment block in Taman Pusat Kepong.
The complainant had just returned home at around 1pm, when he saw the knife-brandishing suspect in his house after he opened the door.
He locked the door and rushed to the security guard there for help.
By the time they came back, the suspect had escaped and the apartment was in disarray.
The complainant and his friends then spotted the suspect as they were making their way down the block, and a chase ensued until the suspect was stopped when he was hit by a wooden object that was thrown at him.
He was then beaten before the police were called.
"The complainant had made a police report but retracted it because the stolen goods had been recovered. However, the investigation will still proceed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house break-in and theft," he said on Friday (Nov 22).
