PETALING JAYA: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has claimed that the meeting between Umno MPs and Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was to discuss the channelling of government projects to the MPs' constituencies.
News portal Malaysiakini reported Ahmad Zahid as saying that the meeting was carried out in a manner that led people to speculate on its objectives.
"I received information that the meeting was held to satisfy their (Umno MPs’) voters in getting government projects to be channelled through allocations to them as MPs.
"However, it created a perception. The opposition chief had before this reminded that any meeting must be done en bloc (by the opposition pact).
"And the meeting venue must be in Parliament. This would appear better and be more appropriate," he was quoted as saying on Tuesday (Nov 19).
It was reported that Azmin had met with 22 Umno MPs, including former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, at the minister's house in Putrajaya late Monday (Nov 18) night.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam accused Hishammuddin of masterminding the meeting.
The party's disciplinary board chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali has said that the board would take immediate action and investigate the matter.
