PETALING JAYA: The Umno disciplinary board will investigate the meeting between 22 Umno MPs and PKR's Datuk Seri Azmin Ali if it receives an official complaint, says chairman Tan Sri Apandi Ali.
"After receiving an official complaint, the disciplinary board will immediately carry out investigations in accordance with existing procedures and make a just decision," he said.
He added on Tuesday (Nov 19) that the committee has yet to receive any complaints about the meeting.
"If complaints are filed, we will carry out investigations without fear or favour," said Apandi.
Apandi said this in response to claims that 22 Umno MPs had met Azmin at his house in Putrajaya on Monday (Nov 18).
He added that while some individuals had posted statements in the media and on social media claiming that the board will receive complaints, it had received none so far.
On Tuesday, Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam had questioned why former Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein brought a group of Barisan Nasional MPs to meet Azmin.
The Umno supreme council member said Hishammuddin's action was clearly against the party's supreme council decision not to have any cooperation with any component parties from Pakatan Harapan.
"I hope no parties will defend him for his betrayal. Umno should take action against him," he said in a statement.
It was reported that Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali had met with 22 Umno MPs, including Hishammuddin, at the minister's house in Putrajaya late Monday night.
Lokman said although not all 22 Umno lawmakers supported Dr Mahathir, he asked Hishammuddin whether he realised such a "betrayal" would disappoint the Barisan Nasional and PAS machinery who had campaigned in the recently concluded Tanjung Piai by-election.
He also said he had on Oct 30 lodged a complaint against Hishammuddin to the party's disciplinary board.
