KOTA KINABALU: Another elephant has been found dead in Sabah, the fourth in two months and this time, in the eastern Sukau Kinabatangan area.
Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga said the carcass of the adult female beast was discovered by Malangkin Estate workers at about 5.50am yesterday.
He said a post-mortem was being conducted to find out the cause of death.
“We do not have other details and will have to wait for the results of the post-mortem, ” he said.
On Sept 25, a bull elephant was found dead in Sungai Udin, Tawau, with its body riddled with gunshot wounds and its two tusks missing.
A month later, another dead elephant was found in an estate in Beluran and on Nov 3, an elephant carcass was discovered floating on Ulu Sungai Kinabatangan, believed to have died in the hands of poachers.
