SERDANG: The remains of an autistic boy, who slipped and fell into Sungai Merab, Kajang, have been found.
The body of Noor Adam Faiq Noor Azam, 11, was retrieved at about 10.15am yesterday, about 3km from where he fell.
Family members realised that the boy had gone missing at about noon on Friday when his shoes and pants were found on the riverbank.
A search and rescue operation was mounted and resumed at 8am yesterday before his remains were spotted.
According to Manisah Lokman, 65, her grandson knew how to swim.
“All I know is that he had never been to the river, but his father used to take him to see a goat pen nearby.
“That’s why I was shocked when told that he had drowned, ” she said at the Serdang Hospital.
Manisah said he was a cheerful boy and close to all family members.
The boy’s father, Noor Azam Johari, who is also Perak Civil Defence Force director, declined to be interviewed.
Zone Five Selangor Fire and Rescue Department chief Nik Mohd Fadhil Salleh said the operation comprised 103 firemen, police and Malaysian Civil Defence Force personnel. — Bernama
