MELAKA: Service to constituents must be consistently delivered by elected representatives and not only during by-elections or special occasions, says Melaka executive council member Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee Hassan.
The State Agriculture, Agro-Based, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Committee chairman said many people he met complained that their assemblymen did not answer messages or entertain them.
"We need to 'turun padang' (go down to the grassroots) to attend to the needs of our constituents and not just emerge during events or a by-election.
"Even media practitioners share the same grouses, saying they were unable to get responses when attempting to get views on certain issues," he said after launching, via live streaming, a blood donation campaign organised by CityLink Express Sdn Bhd in Senawang, Negri Sembilan on Saturday (Nov 16).
Norhizam said people would be more forgiving if elected representatives made efforts to meet and resolve issues affecting them.
"We can't please everyone. Some hate our face, but as elected representatives, we need to seen working and not just appearing when we want something from voters," he added.
