PONTIAN: Several ministers delivered Pakatan Harapan’s final speeches here ahead of the Tanjung Piai by-election as the 14-day campaigning period comes to a close at midnight.
The ceramah saw the attendance of some 250 people and took place at Pusat Perdagangan Pontian on Friday (Nov 15).
Ministers who attended were Deputy Entrepreneur Development Minister Mohd Hatta Ramli, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong, Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub, and Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong.
DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, Pakatan candidate Karmaine Sardini and several other leaders also made an appearance in the ceramah which concluded at 10.30pm.
According to Liew, if Pakatan wins Saturday's (Nov 16) by-election, it will send a message to the nation that Malaysians rejects slander and the ideologies of Muafakat Nasional.
“Our approach is a centrist approach, where we are together with the Malays, Indians, Chinese and Kadazans, and we fight for all Malaysians. We urge all Tanjung Piai voters to determine the direction tomorrow, and that direction is a centrist road.”
Muhyiddin also expressed confidence that if Karmaine is elected, the 66-year-old would be able to bring development to Tanjung Piai.
He added that Pakatan’s main focus is to address socio-economic issues and to improve livelihood among Malaysians.
The Tanjung Piai polls on Nov 16 will be a six-cornered fight between Pakatan’s Karmaine, Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam, Pan Malaysian Islamic Front (Berjasa)’s Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, and two independent candidates - Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar and Ang Chuan Lock.
