PONTIAN: Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng has slammed the government for being adamant in refusing to provide funding to Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC)
He said it was the government's responsibility to ensure that institutions, such as TAR UC are able to run and benefit young minds.
"This is an institution that provides invaluable human capital for the country's future.
"The government has been giving funding to the institution for years. Why do they want to stop it now?
"What is their agenda?" he asked, adding that MCA would not break its ties with TAR UC.
Wee said priority should be in giving students opportunity, and the question of whether or not MCA was linked to TAR UC should not be an issue.
He said this when asked to comment on Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng's statement that the government would only resume its funding to TAR UC when it was no longer being run by MCA.
