Johor DAP secretary and Skudai assemblyman Tan Hong Pin.

PONTIAN: Johor DAP secretary Tan Hong Pin says the chances of Pakatan Harapan winning the Tanjung Piai by-election – with polling just a few days away – is still 50-50.

The Skudai assemblyman said Pakatan's various ceramah had received lukewarm response in certain areas including Pekan Nanas.

However, downplayed the small crowds at their ceramah so far.

"Their people's interest in attending political ceramah is not very high right now, but that does not mean we are not getting their backing," he said after a Pakatan ceramah at a food court along Jalan Johor here on Tuesday (Nov 12) night.

He pointed out that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also Pakatan's chairman, was attending a mega ceramah on Wednesday (Nov 13) night in Kukup, and this could advantage them.

Since the campaign period started on Nov 2, Pakatan's ceramah have had smaller crowds compared to those held by Barisan Nasional.
