KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has chided Pakatan Harapan for “spinning” Datuk Seri Najib Razak's ongoing SRC International trial to fish for votes in the coming Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election.
"Of course the Government will spin this issue.
"I was shocked that after the judgement, they are saying that if you vote Wee (Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng), Najib will be back again.
"I don't understand the logic. You undermine the entire legal system as though one by-election can determine the fate of Pakatan's cause.
"This is utter rubbish," he said when met in Parliament lobby Tuesday (Nov 12).
Dr Wee also said some Pakatan leaders were creating fear among voters in Tanjung Piai, saying that it would be the end of Pakatan's Ubah dream and agenda if they didn't vote for their candidate Karmaine Sardini.
"It is just one by-election and it will not change the Government.
"If want you want to say something, please be logical.
"If this is what they are saying, it means they are trying to influence voters," he added.
Dr Wee noted that even if Barisan won the seats, it would only command 41 seats in Parliament compared to Pakatan Harapan, which has more than 120 seats.
"One seat will not affect the government of the day," the Ayer Hitam MP said in reference to a recent campaign speech by Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong on Pakatan's demise if Barisan won the seat.
Dr Wee speculated that such campaign talk by Pakatan leaders may stem from their worry that a Barisan victory in the by-election would spark internal fighting and a split within Pakatan.
The Nov 16 by-election for the Tanjung Piai Parliament seat is being held following the death of Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, who was also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, on Sept 21.
In the GE14, Dr Md Farid won the seat with a slim 524-vote majority over Dr Wee Jeck Seng and PAS candidate Nordin Othman.
Besides Dr Wee Jeck Seng and Karmaine, the contest on Nov 16 (Saturday) will see a six cornered fight between Jemaah Ismiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) president Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, Gerakan deputy secretary-general Wendy Subramaniam and independents Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar and Ng Chuan Lock.
