PONTIAN: With campaigning hotting up, parties contesting in the by-election here were told to obtain permits before hitting the ground with their election “war trucks”.
This was to avoid any conflict breaking out among contesting parties when they cross paths, said Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din.
“We do not want there to be any provocation among contesting parties that could cause disputes, leading to a fight, ” he said at the Pontian police headquarters here yesterday.
He added that police had not come across such cases so far.
“So far there has been no report of riots and fighting between supporters of the contesting parties. This is good. We want to make sure this will not happen.
“Especially as we are approaching the end of the campaign period where parties contesting may be more aggressive, ” he said.
He added that some 447 permits had been issued so far.
