SIBU: One foreigner died and another was injured after they were shot with what is believed to be a shotgun in the Samalaju Industrial Park along the Bintulu-Miri coastal road late Friday (Nov 8) night.
Bintulu OCPD Superintendent Zulkipli Suhaili said at 2.48am on Saturday (Nov 9) that police were alerted and rushed to the scene.
"A police team reached the scene, an abandoned house in an oil palm estate, and found a man in his 30s lying dead with a gunshot wound to his neck.
"His countryman, 27, was injured on his right shoulder, also due to a gunshot," he said.
Supt Zulkipli added that initial investigations revealed that at about 11pm on Friday (Nov 8), the deceased and his countryman were in the front of the house when they heard a gunshot.
"Both felt pain and quickly ran for cover at the back of the house.
"The deceased, however, died at a corner of the house while the other hid in a bush at the back of the house," he said.
When things had calmed down, the injured man saw that his friend had died.
The body of the deceased and the injured man have been sent to Bintulu Hospital by the police.
Supt Zulkipli said the police would be conducting further investigations to determine the suspects in the case and the motive for the incident.
The case, he said, was being investigated under Section 302 (murder) and 307 (attempted murder) of the Penal Code.
