Body of drowned teen found in Putatan river

KOTA KINABALU: The body of a teen who drowned while swimming was found at Sungai Terawih Ketiau in Putatan Friday (Nov 8) night.

The Fire and Rescue Department retrieved the body of Mohd Hadif Farhan, 14, in a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation that ended at 7.55pm Friday.

According to the state Fire and Rescue operation centre, they initially received a distress call at 5.29pm about the missing boy.

"A team from the Penampang fire station was dispatched to the scene about 9km from the station, as well as the Kota Kinabalu Water Rescue Unit.

"The Water Rescue Unit discovered the remains at the location where the victim first sank, at a depth of 2m.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team and the body has been handed over to the police for further action," said the operation centre in a statement.
