PONTIAN: It was a meeting of old friends when Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were invited as guests of honour for the same dinner event here on Friday (Nov 8).
The MCA president was invited as the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) board of trustees chairman at the Federation of Pontian Chinese Associations’ 19th committee installation dinner, while Muhyiddin attended as the Home Minister.
Both leaders, who used to be colleagues in the Education Ministry during Barisan Nasional’s ruling, exchanged a firm handshake and shared cordial conversations when met.
“We used to be colleagues in the ministry and we have been able to share talks and jokes.
“Although we are on different sides of the political divide today, it is more important for us to campaign healthily by convincing people through our ideologies instead of rumours and attacks,” said Dr Wee.
The Ayer Hitam MP also expressed his gratitude for a special donation, which was mooted by the federation meant for the development of TAR UC.
The fundraising initiative was done among its 47 member associations and also during the dinner night.
In total, they managed to collect RM21,588 and SGD10, and the fund was handed over to Dr Wee during the dinner.
“I am deeply touched by the various donors’ kind gestures, such as from the curry noodle seller and pork seller who made an effort to donate to TAR UC from their earnings.
“These are really moving to all of us and we are truly thankful.
“TAR UC will continue to do its part well and benefit all Malaysians’ future generation regardless of race,” he added.
