KAMPAR: A new government hospital will be built on a 11.3ha plot near Kampung Changkat Baru here, according to Perak Health Committee chairman A. Sivanesan. He said the Federal Government had decided on the project, with the state government agreeing in principle to provide the land valued at RM12.5mil.
“It will take three and a half years for the hospital to be fully completed. I am hoping it will be able to accommodate 150 beds.
“The area is strategically located as people from Kampar, Malim Nawar, Tanjung Tualang and even Gopeng will be able to seek treatment, ” he said at the site of the new hospital here yesterday.During the tabling of Budget 2020, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said RM1.6bil had been allocated for building new hospitals, as well as upgrading and expanding existing hospitals.
Present at the site visit were Tualang Sekah assemblyman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi, Malim Nawar assemblyman Leong Cheok Keng and Keranji assemblyman Chong Zhemin. All the three constituencies come under the Kampar district.
Sivanesan said the current 68-bed Kampar hospital, which was built in 1951, was no longer suitable due to space constraints.
“I will be writing to the Health Ministry to request that this be a fully specialist hospital, ” he said.
He also said Kampar folk could expect to get another hospital built by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
“I will be meeting the university management committee soon to discuss their plans to construct a teaching hospital, ” he added.
