KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong poked fun at Pakatan Harapan for showering "goodies" in Tanjung Piai, but urged voters to accept them anyway.
"TP stands for Tanjung Piai, which is important.
"It also means Tolak Pakatan (reject Pakatan).
"If people want to give food or money, accept it. But when you vote, you must reject because they are insincere," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Thursday (Nov 7).
Dr Wee, who is Ayer Hitam MP, questioned the timing of the RM1,000 cash handout to fishermen in Tanjung Piai next week.
"Why must it be given to the fishermen during this period while we are having a by-election.
"I think this matter should be answered by Pakatan.
"Previously they are against it, but now something which is considered haram (not permissible) has now become halal (permissible).
"I do not think this is fair to Barisan Nasional and I will let the rakyat to decide," he said.
Meanwhile, Pontian MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan also questioned Pakatan's decision to give the RM1,000 cash handout to fishermen in Tanjung Piai.
Ahmad said it was inappropriate to provide such handouts and urged Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal to rethink the move.
"I know the contest in this by-election is very tight so this move of giving money actually goes against election ethics.
"I urge the state government to postpone this until after the Nov 16 by-election," he told reporters.
