Five nabbed, RM1.69mil of items seized in contraband liquor raid

BATU PAHAT: Marine Police seized RM1.69mil worth of items including 29,062 bottles of contraband alcohol during a raid in Tongkang Pecah on Monday (Nov 04).

According to Southern Region Two acting commander Supt Noor Azman Jamal, the raid was conducted at a business premises in Taman Putra Indah at 7.30am.

"Initial investigations found a large number of boxes containing bottles of liquor within the premises and inside a lorry.

"We also arrested five men between the age of 30 and 56 to assist in the investigation," he said in a press release on Wednesday (Nov 6).

The value of items confiscated during the raid, which included the smuggled alcohol, the lorry and two vans amounted to RM1.69mil.

The operation involved two marine police officers and 13 personnel along with three personnel from the Tongkang Pecah police station.

The public is encouraged to give information on smuggling activities by contacting the marine police at 07-237 2221/2222.
