PONTIAN: Pakatan Harapan candidate Karmaine Sardini is not in touch with issues faced by the people, says his challenger Wendy Subramaniam (pic).
“I think he does not know what the real problems affecting the
people are. If I remember correctly, palm oil price was at more than RM400 per tonne previously and then it came down to RM230 per tonne.
“He also told villagers to plant and eat their own vegetables. This is unrealistic, ” she told reporters after a walkabout at Pusat Perdagangan Pontian yesterday.
The Gerakan candidate was commenting on Karmaine’s remarks during a ceramah on Sunday that smallholders living in villages should be grateful with the current price of palm oil, which is at RM270 per tonne, higher than the RM87 per tonne under the former administration.
Wendy said the main issue plaguing the local folk in Tanjung Piai was low wages.
