PONTIAN: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal has come to the defence of Karmine Sardini over his remarks that smallholders should be grateful for the current price of palm oil.

He said that there was nothing wrong with the Pakatan Harapan Tanjung Piai candidate's remarks as the price of palm oil had increased since the Pakatan took over the government.

"The price of palm oil was lower under the previous government compared to now, which as mentioned by the Pakatan candidate, was about RM270 per tonne.

"In fact, the price of palm oil last month went up to RM350 per tonne," Sahruddin told the press when attending a ceramah here in Peradin on Tuesday (Nov 5).

He added that it was fair for the Karmine to say that people should be grateful.

During a ceramah at Kukup, Karmaine had reportedly told smallholders, particularly those in villages, not to complain about the decline in palm oil prices as it was higher than it was during the Barisan Nasional administration.
