PONTIAN: MCA is calling for a louder voice to provide greater checks and balances on the government through the Tanjung Piai by-election.

Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, who is the party candidate for Barisan Nasional, said MCA received many complaints from people over their dissatisfaction with the 18-month-old Pakatan Harapan government.

‘’There are many issues the people are not happy with, especially on policy-making, economy and other bread and butter issues.

“The by-election has given us a chance to win back the Tanjung Piai seat and bring a greater voice of the people in Parliament.

‘’We need to tell the government about the people’s unhappiness, monitor their governance by providing the necessary checks and balances, ’’ he told reporters at the Pontian Umno building after the nomination process here yesterday.

Wee, who is previously a two-term Tanjung Piai MP and one-term Pekan Nenas assemblyman, said he had been keeping close contact with the grassroots and community even though he lost in GE14.

‘“We understand our roles and responsibilities as the government in the past and also as the opposition now.

‘’From the grouses we have gathered, it is necessary for us to relay them and be heard, ’’ he said, adding that his campaigning would roll out with meetings with the voters and giving talks.
