KOTA KINABALU: A man whose name and photo from his e-hailing driver’s account was circulated via social media following an alleged molest claim has come forward to lodge a counter-report.
The man claimed that his e-hailing identification account had been used by a friend for the past six months and lodged a police report on Monday (Oct 28), a day after the victim filed her molest report.
In his report, he said he was not involved in the alleged incident in front of a hotel in Putatan near here on Oct 27, and hoped that the name and photo circulated online will be taken down.
He also called for social media users to stop circulating the report as it was slanderous and affected him and his family.
The man claimed that he had not been driving the car for more than six months as he had let his friend run the e-hailing service using his ID.
Penampang OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said they had received the report on this matter and were investigating.
He added that he did not wish to elaborate on the matter, saying it was part of their probe and it could jeopardise their investigations.
In the Oct 27 incident, a 23-year-old woman had alleged that she was molested by her e-hailing driver, in his 40s, at about 4.48pm on her way home in Putatan.
She said prior to the incident, the driver had driven past the junction into her house as he claimed that he wanted to use another route and take the opportunity to scout the Putatan area as he was not familiar with it.
He however stopped in front of a hotel before inviting her to go in for a rest and allegedly touched her thighs and arm.
The woman managed to escape and lodged a report at about 10.05pm.
A man had surrendered himself to the police following the matter being circulated online.
