IPOH: Another road has been closed following a landslide in central Perak, four days after an earlier incident occurred near Batu Kurau.

A Perak Tengah Public Works Department spokesman said Section 32 of Jalan Seputih-Batu Hampar, between the town of Parit and Tanjung Belanja, would be closed indefinitely after the 12.50am incident yesterday.

“The stretch of road between the junction before MRSM Parit and Taman Parit Jaya is no longer safe for motorists.

“Motorists can use the alternative route, which is through the Ipoh-Lumut Highway.

“We will announce the date for its reopening later,” he said in a statement.

It was reported that a landslide occurred at Kampung Teras, Ijok, near Baru Kurau last Friday.

During the incident, three houses were damaged and a 60-year-old man was found buried while two more villagers sustained light injuries.

The landslide also caused a 200m stretch of road along Jalan Rantau Panjang-Lata Tebing Tinggi to cave in.

The road has since been closed to traffic.

It is learnt that the relevant departments are now checking the entire stretch, about 18km long, to ensure it is safe to be used.

Work is now underway to repair the damaged area, which is expected to take about three months.
