Flash floods wreak havoc in northern states

Safety first: Flood victims in Jawi being evacuated by volunteers and members of the Civil Defence Force after their homes were inundated.

GEORGE TOWN: Flash floods struck several low-lying areas in the state, with two areas on the mainland being the worst-hit after continuous rain that lasted for hours.

Twenty-five families comprising 85 victims were evacuated to two temporary relief centres – Jawi multipurpose hall and Kampung Manggis Kemas kindergarten – after water levels reached knee-high in Jawi and Permatang Tinggi on the mainland.
