SCHOOL debating events will be vetted before hand to avoid sensitive religious issues being raised as topics, said Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik (pic).
“We are updating the ministry’s standard operation procedures that organisers of future debating events must follow.
“This is to ensure the selection of topics are done before the date of the event is finalised, ” he told Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof (PAS-Rantau Panjang).
Earlier, Dr Maszlee informed the House that his ministry had set up a committee to probe an incident involving the Piala Tun Razak 2019 English debating championship.
“The committee found that the topics of debate could touch on religious sensitivities, ” he said.
The debating event, which took place in Seremban recently, was reported to have touched on topics concerning religion and sexual orientation.
