Tanjung Piai Bersatu division chief Karmaine Sardini said the candidate would be named on Oct 30 at Dataran Pontian.
He declined to elaborate who the three candidates are but said they held top posts in the division.
According to sources, Bersatu Pekan Nenas Timur branch chief Darwis Saleh is one of the choices.
Darwis, 56, is a local businessman and community leader with more than 30 years experience in politics. His younger brother is former Kukup assemblyman Suhaimi Saleh.
Another name is the division’s Srikandi chief Norma Mohamed, 67. She is the mother of the late Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik.
She is a well-known and respected figure with 30 years’ experience as a former Tanjung Piai Umno division Wanita chief.
Meanwhile, Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said Barisan has fixed Oct 28 to name its candidate.
“The announcement for the Barisan candidate is scheduled to be made at the Pontian Umno division office.
“I hope all Umno and Barisan supporters, including those from Muafakat Nasional, can come support our candidate” said Ahmad during a Perpaduan Ummah event in Rimba Terjun, Tanjung Piai, on Saturday night.
Present at the event were Johor PAS commissioner Abdullah Husin, Tanjung Piai Umno division chief Datuk Jefridin Atan and his deputy chief Md Israk Abdullah.
Meanwhile, Abdullah announced a mega ceramah would be held on Nov 14 for the by-election and it would be attended by Barisan and Muafakat Nasional central leaders.
The Election Commission has set Nov 2 as the nomination day and Nov 16 as the polling day for the parliamentary by-election.
The by-election was triggered after Dr Farid, 42, died of heart complications on Sept 21.
