NILAI: A 39-year-old-man who wanted to take advantage of a 50% discount on traffic summonses ended up receiving nine stitches to his head after a fan fell on him at a temporary traffic police counter near here.

The victim had to be rushed to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital (TJH) following the 12.20pm incident at Nilai Square on Sunday (Oct 20).

Nilai OCPD Supt Mohd Nor Marzukee Bakar said the counter, which was under a canopy, was set up temporarily in conjunction with the inaugural four-day NS Fest held here.

"The victim, who is from Kajang and works at a fast food outlet, was paying his summonses when the fan detached and fell on him.

"The victim, who sustained head injuries, was treated by Civil Defence personnel on duty and then rushed to the TJH in Seremban," Supt Mohd Nor Marzukee said in a statement Sunday.

He said the victim was taken to the red zone and his condition was stable.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the canopy and the ceiling fan had been put up by personnel from the Public Works Department.
