15,000 throng the roads as Starwalk flags off from Gurney Drive

GEORGE TOWN: Some 15,000 enthusiastic "Starwalkers" gathered along the scenic Gurney Drive to take part in the Starwalk 2019 early on Sunday morning (Oct 20).

It was a sea of turquoise as they walked towards Tanjung Tokong area before returning to the starting point.

Organised by Star Media Group, the non-competitive 7km walk was flagged off by the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.

Accompanying him on stage were Star Media Group chief executive officer Andreas Vogiatzakis, Star Media Group client brand marketing general manager Simone Liong, who is also Penang Starwalk 2019 chairman, Star Media Group news editor Alex Teng, YTL Communications Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Wing K Lee, Hunza Properties Sdn Bhd executive director Fong Yin Sian, Tenaga Nasional Bhd Penang Retail Division (Customer Service) head U. Ananda Rani Ulaganathan and Penang Amateur Athletics Association (PAAA) president Datuk Syed Mohd Aidid Syed Murtaza.

The Penang Starwalk 2019 was initially scheduled for Sept 22 but was postponed on the advice of the state government due to the bad haze situation in the country.

Gurney Paragon Mall is the venue provider, while F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd is the official beverage partner.

Citizen Watches (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is the official timekeeper.

The event’s platinum sponsor is YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, while Tenaga Nasional Bhd is the gold sponsor.

Silver sponsors are Indofood (M) Food Industries Sdn Bhd, Wiitrac Elevator Sdn Bhd, BookDoc, Penang Turf Club and Ewein Zenith Sdn Bhd.
