Royalty payments in cash to oil producing states

Royalty payments to oil producing states will be made in cash, says Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic).

“The Prime Minister and the government have agreed that cash payments be made to the oil producing states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

Azmin said the process would involve Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) making payments to the Ministry of Finance, which will then channel the cash payments directly to the respective state governments.

Asked if the payments to Kelantan were part of the oil royalty or goodwill payment (wang ehsan), Azmin said he was unsure as discussions were still ongoing with regard to the 20% oil royalty payments.
