KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man for owning a police reflective vest with the rank of police commissioner embedded on it.
The suspect was arrested Sunday (Oct 13) at the Jinjang police station, according to city police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.
"With the arrest, the suspect handed over a vest which had the words 'Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Community Policing Association' on it, as well as the rank of CP (commissioner police).
"The rank tab had been ordered from a tailor in Gombak and the suspect, who had used the vest for a religious function in Taman Wahyu, had done so on the invitation of the association secretary staying in the same area.
"Follow-up investigations are underway on other members who attended the event," he said in a statement Sunday.
Comm Mazlan added that it was an offence to own, sell or supply police equipment and uniforms under the Minor Offences Act 1955.
"The police view the matter seriously and will take appropriate action to prevent any such masquerade that could confuse the public," he said.
The arrest follows photos on social media recently showing the suspect and other members walking around in public in the vests.
