KUALA LUMPUR: A policewoman went above and beyond the call of duty by assisting an Indonesian woman to give birth while accompanying her to the hospital.
The pregnant woman had sought assistance at the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) police booth and approached L/Kpl N. Komathi at about 3.40pm on Monday and informed her that she was experiencing labour pains.
Seeing the woman’s condition, L/Kpl Komathi hailed a taxi and took her to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon said the woman gave birth to a 3.7kg baby boy in the taxi while en route to the hospital, with the assistance of L/Kpl Komathi.
“The woman was given treatment once both of them arrived at the hospital. Her husband was also informed of the birth of the baby, ” he said.
ACP Mohamed Mokhsein commended L/Kpl Komathi for her fast and dedicated action.
“Her actions embody the motto that polis dan masyarakat berpisah tiada (police and society are inseparable), ” he said.
L/Kpl Komathi underwent training at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 16,2016. Her first posting was at Seberang Perai Police District Headquarters in Penang.
She was then transferred to the Salak Selatan police station in March 2017.
