PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan has proposed some changes to Budget 2020, to be tabled on Friday (Oct 11).
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic), who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, said the contents of the Budget were hotly debated during the coalition's presidential council meeting on Monday (Oct 7).
"We discussed the Budget at length and there were differences in opinion.
"As a result, we have proposed some changes to be made. Hopefully, the Finance Minister will consider it before he tables the Budget," he told a press conference after chairing the meeting.
However, Dr Mahathir kept mum when asked what was being proposed.
"I don't want to break the embargo. Just wait for Friday," he said.
Besides the Budget, the Pakatan presidential council also discussed the Tanjung Piai by-election where Dr Mahathir acknowledged that it would be challenging for them.
"We are depending on the Opposition to help us win the seat. We hope they will field an Umno candidate," said Dr Mahathir
When asked why Pakatan prefers going against Umno in this by-election, he said: "So that it is easier for us to win".
Dr Mahathir said Pakatan's candidate has not been finalised but it will be from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
The Tanjung Piai seat fell vacant after the death of its MP Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik on Sept 21 due to a heart attack.
Dr Farid, 42, who was also Tanjung Piai Bersatu division vice-chief, won the seat in the last general election after beating MCA's Wee Jeck Seng and PAS' Nordin Othman with a majority of 524 votes.
For Barisan Nasional, the Tanjung Piai seat is traditionally contested by MCA.
Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said that it does not matter whether it is Umno or MCA which is contesting the by-election, as long as Pakatan is defeated.
The by-election will be held on Nov 16, while nomination day would fall on Nov 2 and early voting is on Nov 12.
