Pakatan will honour promises made by late MP to Tanjung Piai folk

PONTIAN: Pakatan Harapan wants to ensure that all projects in Tanjung Piai initiated by its late MP, Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, would continue.

Johor Pakatan elections director Datuk Salahuddin Ayub (pic) said that the coalition hopes to fulfil all the promises Dr Md Farid made before his death.

"Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddun Jamal and I have met with village heads from Tanjung Piai this evening (Sept 29) to find out on the promises that the former MP had made to the people here.

"We will try to ensure that these promises would be realised and any projects mooted during the MP's administration will continue," he said.

Salahuddin said this to reporters when met after a briefing session with village heads from Tanjung Piai at the Pontian district office here Sunday (Sept 29).

Salahuddin, who is also Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, said that Dr Md Farik was a respectable person who always had time for the rakyat, and whoever contesting to fill in his position at the coming Tanjung Piai by-election, needs to also fulfil these criteria.

When asked whether all parties under Pakatan would agree to have a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) candidate to contest for the by-election, Salahuddin said it would depend on the party's president.

"Our practice in Pakatan is to follow the consensus.

"A lot of opinions will be brought forward from all the component parties during the meeting to decide on a candidate but it will all depends on the party president," he said.

He added that for Parti Amanah Negara, there are no issues with a Bersatu candidate contesting for the seat as its previous MP was from the party.

The Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat became vacant following Dr Md Farid's death due to a heart attack on Sept 21.
