Dishing out honesty to kids

Doing it the right way: SK Bandar Tasik Kesuma pupils lining up to take their food in their canteen operated by KePs Blue Cafe.

KUALA LUMPUR: There is nothing like starting them young when it comes to inculcating values such as honesty. Earlier this year, the canteen operator at a primary school in Beranang – a small town on the Selangor-Negri Sembilan border – introduced a system where the students pay for their food and drinks by putting the money into a special box placed on the counter and taking the change due to them.

Although there were a few hiccups initially, over time the children learned to be responsible, and today, SK Bandar Tasik Kesuma’s canteen – KePs Blue Cafe – is operating smoothly.
