Haze fails to dampen M’sia Day celebrations

KUALA LUMPUR: The haze blanketing most parts of the country for the past week did not dampen the 2019 Malaysia Day celebrations across the country yesterday. In Negri Sembilan, the Sikamat state constituency community service centre organised a carnival to celebrate the special day.

The programme, held at the Raja Melewar Teacher Education Institute beginning 7am, was aimed at attracting visitors from various races to celebrate Malaysia Day together.

At the carnival, Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun took part in a 14km Merdeka cycling convoy with the people of Sikamat.

Other activities included hot air balloon rides, a fun run, traditional dances and other fun-filled activities.

In Labuan, more than 6,500 people converged at Dataran Labuan to join the 2019 Malaysia Day celebration.

Over 1,500 people participated in a parade witnessed by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad, Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli and other government officials.

The highlight of the Labuan gathering was the Bunga Raya Fiesta procession involving 58 parade contingents comprising 1,473 children from kindergartens and pre-schools all over Labuan.

In Kelantan, 67 contingents involving 2,345 participants took part in the Malaysia Day celebration at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Baru. — Bernama
