Four mat rempit arrested for illegal racing on JB-Pontian highway

JOHOR BARU: A group of mat rempit were arrested for racing on KM18 to KM20 of the Johor Baru–Pontian road here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Taib Ahmad said that police arrested four suspects between aged 16 and 17 for illegal racing.

He said the arrests were made during an operation dubbed "Ops Samseng Jalanan" that started at midnight until 2.30am on Sunday (Sept 15).

"During the operation, we spotted a group of motorcyclists speeding on a 300m-long stretch along the Johor Baru–Pontian road.

"They repeated the act several times before stopping at KM18 of the road," he said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 15).

He added that police also seized 14 motorcycles during the operation.

"The motorcycles were seized for being heavily modified and some of its riders did not have licenses.

He added that the teenagers were arrested under Section 81(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for taking part in illegal racing.

"We also issued 28 summonses for offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 during the operation," he said.
