The 3.5km walk was meant to highlight the concept introduced by the government with a Malaysian context, taking into account the ethnic and religious communities.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa said Rahmatan Lil Alamin means mercy to all mankind.
“It is what we call compassionate Islam, the acceptance of everyone so we live in peace, diversity and harmony.
“This is what mercy to mankind is all about,” he said after flagging off the run organised by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council and the International Islamic University Malaysia yesterday.
Mujahid also launched the Rahmatan Lil Alamin week which is held to provide better explanation and understanding of the concept introduced by the government.
Amid cases of racial hatred, religious bigotry and war in the name of Islam and religion, he said Malaysia wanted to set an example to the world by practising the concept of Rahmatan Lil Alamin.
Malaysia, he said, had always been built on the diversity of its races and religions.
He reminded Malaysians that no matter where they were, the biggest priority for the nation is to preserve unity.
