KUALA LUMPUR: The government will not be bringing back the Goods and Services Tax (GST), says Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
He said he had not heard of any proposal by economists to bring back the tax.
"We abolished the GST in June last year, and there are no plans to bring it back," he said during the launch of 1 Utama's 1Pay E-wallet and online shopping e-commerce platform (Oneshop.com.my) here on Friday (Sept 13).
On July 24, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah said that the government projected the collection of SST to amount to RM22bil this year.
If achieved, the amount would only be half the RM44bil collected under GST by the Barisan Nasional government in 2017.
